Increasing number of trains , higher frequencies and cutting edge stations, the performances of the Dutch railways are excellent. This is evident from a recently published international benchmark (2011-2015). As part of the management concession issued by the Ministry of Infrastructure the Dutch Railways (NS) and the Dutch infrastucture manager  (ProRail) commissioned an international benchmark to compare the railways of the Netherlands with railways of Belgium, France, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and UK. Compared to these countries in the Netherlands train frequencies and  punctuality are higher, while the number of failures is lower. Number of accidents and maintenance costs are also lower.
